Fed: Holiday road toll at 56

SYDNEY, Jan 2 AAP - The national holiday road toll has reached 56.

There was one death on the country's roads on Friday in central Queensland.

A woman was killed when the car she was travelling in collided with a truck on the Bruce Highway north of Mackay at about 1.30pm (AEST).

The death takes the state's toll to 13.

Victoria continues to top the list with 16 deaths.

NSW and Western Australia have had 10 fatalities each.

Five have died in the Northern Territory, while South Australia and Tasmania have both recorded one death each.

The Australian Capital Territory remains fatality free.
